Hello ,
Since Rolls-Royce SMR has been chosen as the preferred bidder to develop the UK's first small modular reactors (SMRs) on June 2025, the Great British Energy – Nuclear expected to sign contracts and allocate a site later this year. The contact marks a new era for nuclear power, and aims to enhance clean energy production, potentially creating 3,000 jobs.
In the same month, the UK Government announced its "10 Year Strategy," highlighting nuclear's crucial role in providing predictable low-carbon power as the current fleet ages, with four of the five plants expected to close by 2030. The government plans to invest over £2.5 billion during the Spending Review 2025 period to develop one of Europe's first Small Modular Reactor (SMR) programs.

| We are very honored to announce that Simon Bowen, Great British Energy – Nuclear (GBE-N)'s Chair has confirmed to join the EMEA Modular & UK Large Reactor 2026 (EMUL2026, March, 25-26th | London, U.K.) as Keynote Speaker, he will make keynote speech about “Leading the Charge: SMRs and the UK's Nuclear Renaissance”. |
Simon Bowen is the Chair of Great British Energy – Nuclear (GBE-N), having previously served as the Industry Adviser tasked with establishing the organisation. Simon began his career as an engineering officer in the Royal Navy, serving on submarines. He brings extensive leadership experience across the petrochemical, renewables, civil nuclear, and defence nuclear sectors. In 2015, Simon joined Babcock International as Chief Executive for Nuclear, overseeing Cavendish Nuclear and the defence nuclear portfolio, including naval base services and submarine maintenance at Devonport, Clyde, and Rosyth. He retired from Babcock in December 2021. Simon was instrumental in the formation of GBE-N, leading wide-ranging engagement across government, industry, academia, and the international nuclear community. In September, he delivered a comprehensive scoping report with recommendations to the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ). He recently stepped down as the Chair of Devonport Royal Dockyard and served for 2 years on the Board of Rolls-Royce Submarines.
